South African Rugby Team needs to get some “balls” and stand-up!
When Jean de Villiers, Tendai Mtawarira, Eben Etzebeth, Bismarck du Plessis, Duane Vermeulen, Willie le Roux, Cornal Hendricks and Pat Lambie were taking part in the extensive testing programme in Japan to fine tune the final product of the new jerseys, did they not see that the Springbok logo was missing from its usual place? Boundaries are being slowly shifted.. until the Springbok logo is gone and then its too late!
Why would the South African government disrespect the heritage of the Springbok? In the days of white supremacy, rugby became the country’s pre-eminent sport and black players were not allowed to wear the Springbok jersey.
While rugby in the country remains a white-dominated sport, some argue that racial barriers were broken in 1995 when former president Nelson Mandela – wearing a Springbok jersey – lifted the World Cup trophy after South Africa won the tournament for the first time.
It is time we put a stop to the ignorant, racially motivated incitement to hate campaign motivated by destroying the Afrikaner and their legacy.
Stand up for what is right and speak up for the marginalised! Placing the logo as secondary is disrespectful and erodes the heritage of what our country has achieved and the journey it has travelled thus far. Why is the South African government so afraid that they are constantly preoccupied with the past, instead of reconciling it and focusing on its future?
I’m certain that if the previous rugby teams of South Africa were to play without jerseys, it would have not affected their game. They played for South Africa in contrast to the new team, which plays for money. So it is hogwash that they developed these highly technological shirts so they play better. Remove the Springbok and you remove their identity! That is what matters here! I therefore challenge the South African Rugby team to get some “balls” and speak-out by taking off those ridiculous shirts at your next game until the Springbok returns to its prominence!
