Why the UK needs immigrants to help revive a disenchanted country? by Shey (15 yrs)
One of the many complaints of the average Brit these days is that “I can hear people speaking Polish on the streets.” When questioned as to why that is a bad thing, they replied “Because they’re taking up our jobs.” However, when asked the question, “why is that a bad thing for Britain as a whole?”, they didn’t have an answer.
The facts are quite clear that the gap between the rich and the poor is becoming wider, with no sign of thinning. The incentives for people to work are at an all-time low and are still dwindling. These days, it has become the norm to do half of the job required, take your paycheque and go back home. The solution to this, you ask?
Frankly, I find the general apathy towards eastern European immigrants in particular to be revolting. Why are they taking up jobs? Because they’re enthusiastic and hardworking. Why do we hate them? They speak a different language.
The competition for jobs has never been higher, and to-be employees need to work ever harder to get that job they desire. What this leads to is increased competition for each job, even low-skilled ones such as cleaners and lorry drivers, resulting in each person having an increased drive to work. These are the incentives we need to revive our working population, because as of now, people’s drive to work will keep getting lower, leading to people not caring about how they carry out their job – the old mantra of “have pride in your work” is long gone.
If you need to have pride in yourwork in order to put bread on the table, however, it’s a completely different story. Polish immigrants have already realised this and so are some of the most hard-working people in Britain, if not the world. Now if us ordinary Brits can just replicate this sheer desire, this animalistic greed to do your job to the best you can possibly do it, well, I see Britain having a very bright future.
Right now? Not so much.
