A “DUTY” to keep” MIGRANTS” (people) out?
It is truly amazing how many various types of legislative proposals are accepted these days in the name of “National Security” or that which is of “Public interest”. The world has become smaller through globalisation, social networking and the sheer ease of accessibility yet the increase of borders and territories are being vigorously established. We see that the many countries which once made its wealth as “migrants” to reap its produce are now changing the rules to suit its own advantageous position.
Theresa May calls for the uncontrolled migrants to be controlled. One must definitely unpack her statements very delicately as there are a number of relating issues she addresses and disguises. Mrs May notes that “the current trend of onward movement benefits criminals gangs, endangers people and reduces the prospects of refugees ever returning home to rebuild their countries.”…So is it the migrants safety and welfare that Mrs May is concerned about?
“But the uncontrolled migration we see today is not in the interests of migrants who are exposed to danger, not in the interest of the countries they are leaving, travelling through or seeking to reach, and not in the interest of refugees for whom resources and popular support are reduced.” But she further elaborates “Of course controlled legal and safe migration benefits our economies, and there is nothing wrong with the desire to migrate for a better life.” Is it also about money? We want free trade but we are selective on those suffering?
It appears that Mrs May’s ideology would further alienate the United Kingdom with its European neighbours and cause further divisions amongst the Global community.
Theresa May said: We need to be clear that all countries have the right to control their borders and protect their citizens and be equally clear that countries have a duty to manage their borders to reduce onwards flows of illegal and uncontrolled migration.
Her words also go to the heart of tensions between EU countries, with southern European nations taking on unprecedented numbers of migrants, while member states further north tighten border controls.
She went on to say that the uncontrolled migration we see today is not in the interests of migrants who are exposed to danger, not in the interest of the countries they are leaving, travelling through or seeking to reach, and not in the interest of refugees for whom resources and popular support are reduced.
Politicians in northern and western Europe have demanded adherence to the principle as large numbers of refugees and migrants from Syria and North Africa have landed in Italy and Greece with the goal of heading for countries like Germany, France and the UK.
We live within a global community- in a community it is civilised to share and support those in need. There are many beggars about, some do this out of necessity whilst others are just plain lazy. Do we stop giving altogether? How is it that we are so ruthless to others sufferings -scourged by war, famine and persecution? …that we are willing to bury our heads in the sand?
